Essential Skills

Amey have been a leader in embedding the Skills Builder's Essential Skills Framework into their DofE Gold Award. Celebrating our 20 years in partnership, we started a conversation about the importance of essential skills development and saw the partnership as the perfect platform.

Throughout the award, there is now a strong focus on young people's essential skills development, ensuring young people come away from the programme having developed those crucial transferable skills, which will help them progress within their future careers.

The essential skills framework will be the centre and heart of our partnership going forwards.

Amey hosted a roundtable discussion with several stakeholders across the sector, to discuss the importance of essential skills within young people programmes - for more information please click here or watch the video below:

Skills module

As part of the DofE Gold Award, our young people have to complete a 6-month Skills Module.  We have embedded the essential skills framework into this module, so they have the chance to practice and develop these skills.

  • Our young people will assess themselves against the framework at the start of the module
  • Choose the skills they scored lowest in
  • Work with their People Manager to come up with tasks and activities to help improve the skills chosen
  • Assess themselves against the framework at the end of the module
